Birthday Bash in Flutes at The Fort

Last weekend, I celebrated hubby's birthday at a restaurant with good ambiance, great for dating couples especially. I stumbled upon a much unprecedented Flutes at The Fort from its website. Its tucked in a secluded Fort Canning Park, away from hustle and bustle city. Flutes at The Fort is a hidden jewel in the heart of city landscape among skyscrapers, amidst lush greenery. The alpine fresh air, the rustling tree leaves and birds chirping away, is a perfect evening dining out with your loved ones. It carries modern Australian cuisine, and please do reserve a veranda seating, as it allows you to overlook the cityscape and night view from atop.

Both food and service are well-rated too. Food served are as good as the presentation, with reasonable price, along with wide array of wine list. The waiters gave us all the attention, refilled our mid-full wine glasses. So be assured you and your partner can dine and enjoy the food and conversation without having to wave frantically for the waiters/waitresses. I remembered lucidly, I dropped my napkin twice during the dinner, they brought me a new napkin and placed on my lap almost immediately. Their service and attention deserve my 2 thumbs up! The only downside having al fresco dining was the lighting, too dim, most of my foodie photos turn up either blurred or dull.

On that evening, I considered myself lucky to be able to catch a whole episode of marriage proposal. It was between a caucasian who proposed to his girlfriend. When I noticed a waiter stepping out with a bottle of decent champagne and a bouquet of sweet smelling flowers in hands, I assumed something interesting was going to take place. And true enough, the man stood up from his seat, and knelt down in front of his girlfriend, searching for a ring out from his pocket, and asked for his girl's hand. Uncontrollably, the girl wept and was too amused to say anything. They hugged and kissed with joy and happiness. Everyone who witnessed felt happy for them too, a lady beside me (obviously an ang moh) cried too...lol. Guess she was touched too...The waiter was busy taping down the whole proposal thing, taking video of the momentous event. In this type of occasion, leave your naughty little monkeys aka the kids at home, coz they probably would spoil the ambience, talking at high pitch volume, shouting their lungs out, throwing tantrums around, jumping and running...GOSH!

Before walking up the stairs leading to the restaurant.

Flutes at the Fort is situated on the picturesque green slope at the Hill Street end of Fort Canning Park. Housed in a beautiful black and white bungalow which was built in 1908, it served as the old Fire Chiefs’ home. The Central Fire Station is clearly visible from the veranda.

Veranda settings....cooling breeze after flurries of drizzle

Carefully reading the menu

The menu

The red wine which we ordered to wash down our meal

Wine tasting

Sun dried tomato and olive focaccia bread with vinegar and olive oil dip. The freshly baked bread with aroma shifted into the air, deliciously smell of herbs, soft and warm inside and crispy outside, dipped in vinegar, fabulous...

Spicy shellfish soup with crab meat, coriander and kaffir lime oil...very fusion and super yummy....great eaten with bread too!

The entree..freshly shucked seasonal oyster with lemon wedges, red wine and shallot dressing, in a serving glass...I reckoned they were too skinny for my huge appetite!

Another entree of choice...pan fried foie gras with rosella flower, warm blinis, and a touch of spice.....one word to describe...yummylicious! Presentation was lovely! You don't taste its oiliness at all coz the rosella brings out the mixture of sweet sour combination to the whole dish...

Hubby's main course: Grilled 150-Day Angus Beef Tenderloin (medium well) with rosti potatoes, spring veg, port wine sauce...I love the rosti, crispy...and the beef too..

My main dish: Wild Fire Spiced Roasted Lamb Rack (3 racks to be accurate, well-done), with eggplant, Celeriac RĂ©moulade, Anchovy-Olive Roll. Beans, Capsicum Coulis and Red Wine Sauce...meat was tender and nicely roasted....

My roasted lamb rack...up close

Enjoying an evening with dearest over a nice dinner

Hubby with his 'birthday dessert'
Warm Valrhona Chocolate Fondant with Blood Orange Soda, Brandy Snap, Vanilla Ice-Cream...I simply love molten lava cake...everthing which is chocolatey!
