Tesselaar Tulip Festival & Healesville Sanctuary - Day 1

Our flight from Singapore to Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne, took off at night. After 7 hours of sleepless night, we reached our destination at 6.30 a.m. Australia local time. Weather was windy with freezing temperature dipping at 4 degree celcius.

Twilight from window view.

Upon arrival, after clearing the custom, we headed to Budget, just across the Tullamarine airport exit, to pick up our hired wagon for the entire trip.

With the help of handy little device called GPS, straight we drove to Dandenong area, where we had a power brunch of hearty pastas and risotto.

My main of chicken fillet pastas, the verdict: chicken meat was WAY to tough and dry!

Bro's: Cheezyyyy risotto

After satisfying our hunger, the first point of interest was Tesselaar Tulip Festival. Our arrival was the first day of the festival, which also marked the beginning of Spring in Melbourne. Tesselaar Tulip Festival is held yearly in September, where you can feast your eyes on different types of colourful tulips. With entry of AUS$18 per adult, we walked to the entrance, rows and rows of blooming tulips fascinated us.

Below were alpacas, which made crying sound like little children.

From afar, the tulip farm mimicking the sight of blooming flowers in Hokkaido or Holland. :), with windmill at the far end. The view of plentiful colourful tulips looked spectacular under hot sunny weather. To visit, Tessellaar Tulip Festival usually starts in mid September, and lasts for a month. The location which is an hour drive from Melbourne, is 357 Monbulk Rd, Silvan Victoria, opens daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

                                                 Happily snapping away.
It's said that there were a display of over half a million tulips made up of more than a hundred different varieties.

I was hopping from row to row, snapping pictures with blooming tulips.

Took a break with yummy ice-cream, had heavenly chocolate and berry sorbet flavour. Think the guy was the boss, coz he told me that I was very lucky having him to serve me. ;)

The next stop was the Healesville Sanctuary Yarra Valley, where wildlife is seen roaming freely, from timid cuddly koalas to extremely deadly reptiles. There were wombats, roos, werribees, platypus, tasmanian devils and many more.Healesville Sanctuary allows daily encounter with their friendly kangaroo and koala, as well as dingos. Sadly, we were told that the koala had reached its maximum 20 minutes of getting up close with human for the day. It needed to rest. Koalas are very protected and they boast koalas are the most expensive animal to handle and look after. Entry fee is AUS$25.40 per adult, with extra AUS$10 for wildlife encounters.

Healesville Sanctuary located at Badger Creek Road, Healesville Victoria 3777, opens daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It was 4 p.m., when we called it a day. It started to drizzle a bit by the time we completed the trail around the sanctuary. The temperature started to dip, our plan to continue with lavender farm was postponed to the next morning as many places of interest usually close at 5 p.m.

                                                    Had early dinner.

Dinner of 2 large roasted chickens with VERY large portion of fries and roasted vegetables.

We drove to Yarra Glen BnB, which nestled in the heart of Yarra Valley, where we had a good night sleep after a full day of just a mere of an hour or two sleep during the flight. The Yarra Glen BnB was surrounded with tranquility of greens and alpine fresh air. The motel was lovely and freakily clean, with friendly houseowner, Mac and beautiful shepherd dog, Bobbie. (Please read the next coming article, for more about Bobbie).

Yarra Glen BnB is located at 112 Yarraview Road.
